Internet Annoyances Warning: LanguageI still have my original e-mail address after 10 years. Currently, it's primarily an incoming e-mail address due to technical issues. Occasionally, I get a returned e-mail message, for an e-mail I never sent in the first place. Well, today, I logged in, expecting somewhere in the range of 10-35 e-mails, depending on the news groups, lj replies, and other legitimate mail. Instead I got 247, 14 of which I would classify as legitimate. That leaves 233 bounced e-mails that wound up in my inbox, which has tapered off so I'm only up to 236 bounces. This 'mail bombing' has got me seriously pist off. It's bad enough when this chumps send me spam, it gets a whole lot more fuck'n irritating when it's a full out bouncing mail bomb. Jackasses. Iconic Memery Taken by and from both the_gneech and d_l_leonine1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five (or four or three) of your icons. 2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose. 3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts. 4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo! The Gneech's choices: 1. My default image of Blacksilver. The image was done by Kanthara of her character, Fiona, and Blacksilver back on SherwoodMUCK. The full image is here http://www.kantharasloft.net/studio/anthros/Black-Fiona.html. My back story was that (Sir William) Blacksilver was a Saxon noble loyal to King Richard who went 'undercover' upon returning from the Crusades, and ended up running the local stables as well as the White Wolf tavern, named after his two partners, both of whom where white wolf ladies. 2. That would happen to be Bat Boy of the Weekly World News fame. I scanned that off a book I purchased called Bat Boy Lives. I've toyed with making a variant of it inserting the word FREAK! in bright yellow letters in the corner. 3. That would be a picture of my first con badge ever, done by Lonnie "Beerhorse" DeNillo http://www.furaffinity.net/view/275758/, for Halloween 2006. I gave her one of three ideas and this is the one she went with. This image gave me an idea that when I do get both my B'silver fursuit and build the Ghostbuster gear I've got plans for, combining them together to put together for cons, especially if I ever go to FurFright. 4. That would be the U.S.S. North Carolina (BB-55), the first of the new 'Fast Battleships' the U.S. built just before and during WW2. She's currently moored as a memorial in Wilmington, NC and trips to see her growing up, inspired my interest in history, especially of the Second World War. Also, when I was in fourth grade, my AG class had us write poems for calligraphy, which I did on the "Showboat", which ended up getting published in the North Carolina Young Authors Competition Book for that year as well as later on getting to meet the association of the surviving crew members back in the eighties. 5. This would be one of my WoW characters, my Tauren Druid, Enno. I was waiting for my RL brother to meet up with me online so I sat in the basket of a catapult and took a screen grab of the image. I tend to use this one when folks talk about Warcraft or I'm posting on a journal of a bull. And D.L.'s choices: 1. That would be a picture of my first con badge ever, done by Lonnie "Beerhorse" DeNillo http://www.furaffinity.net/view/275758/, for Halloween 2006. This image gave me an idea that when I do get both my B'silver fursuit and build the Ghostbuster gear I've got plans for, combining them together to put together for cons, especially if I ever go to FurFright. 2. Well, this is a picture of me taken at last year's DragonCon. That's currently my only costume, an U.S. Marine attached to Stargate Command. I'm a big StarGate fan and I went with Marines because my kid brother's in the Corps. And the sign really does say Chulak (with Earth as a origin point) or Bust, I looked it up on Wikipedia, I wanted the accuracy. 3. This would be a icon version of a picture done for me by Lady Cybercat [info]shadow_weaver from back at FWA 2006. The full picture can be found here. I've also recently lucked out and got a conbadge comission done by her with a Stargate theme (I'm such a geek). 4. That would happen to be Bat Boy of the Weekly World News fame. I scanned that off a book I purchased called Bat Boy Lives. I've toyed with making a variant of it inserting the word FREAK! in bright yellow letters in the corner. 5. My default image of Blacksilver. The image was done by Kanthara of her character, Fiona, and Blacksilver back on SherwoodMUCK. I had almost forgotten about this I still need to give the answers to the movie quote challenge a few months back. Only four didn't get answered this time around. Well, here they are. 1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies. 2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. 3. Post them here for everyone to guess. 4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed. 5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions to answer! 1. "Oh... so you're a fan of the Fett?" "No, I was always a fan of Star Wars." I'm surprised no one got this one, considering that the movie was less than a year old at the time, this was a little conversation between Bruce Willis and Kevin Smith in Live Free or Die Hard. 2. "Well that's simply the way they talk here. Nobody pays any attention to you unless you swear every other word." Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home guessed by dragonrift. 3. "Oh, isn't this wonderful? Look at this room, what a beautiful room, have you seen this room?" "Yes, we're in it." Rowan Atkinson and John Lovitz's conversation in Rat Race. 4. "First rule in government spending: why build one when you can have two at twice the price?" Contact guessed by dragonrift. 5. '"The Statue of Liberty is kaput" - that's disconcerting.' Saving Private Ryan Guessed by crazylobo. 6. "You really got the strike out record?" "Felt wrong not to swing." Signs guessed by dragonrift. 7. "Let them have outer space. We got rock 'n' roll." This came from the character Roy Lee (William Lee Scott) in the true life story October Sky. 8. "Who flies crates like these anymore?" "No one, these planes where reported missing in 1945." Close Encounters of the Third Kind Guessed by radbaron. 9. "See? I'm as anatomically impaired as a Ken doll." Dogma guessed by crazylobo. 10. "I don't get it, what's the difference between them and me?" "The difference is that they're dead, ALL OF THEM!" One of my favorite lines between Louis Gossett Jr and Jason Gedrick in the original Iron Eagle. 11. "Radiation suit? Of course, because of all the fallout from the atomic wars." Back to the Future guessed by crazylobo. 12. "Time travel is possible, Einstein proved it." "In theory." "In theory." "So all we have to do is sail through some storm at sea and bingo! We're suddenly much more clever than Einstein." The Final Countdown guessed by brotherdour. 13. "This reminds me of that time you tried to drill a hole through your head. Remember that?" "That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me." Ghostbusters guessed by dragonrift. 14. "BECAUSE I DIED... IN EPISODE 81!" Galaxy Quest guessed by crazylobo. 15. "Nervous?" "Yes." "First time?" "No, I've been nervous lots of times." Airplane! guessed by dragonrift. | | Thursday, May 29th, 2008 | | 1:23 am |

Just on a lark. While reading the_gneech's journal, I happened to read about his desire to see the land of his ancestors. Which got me to thinking about my late father talking about the Alstons of Odell castle in England. So I decided to try my luck and I googled this wiki, which I found interesting on the first try. Real Life GTA I shouldn't be laughing at other peoples' misfortunes, but as Mr. Brooks said, Tragedy is when I cut my finger, comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die. I just got back from the local midnight release of GTAIV, while I was waiting in line some folks where so excited about the game that they decided to play it irl in the parking lot. Not that way. Seems that one fellow wasn't paying attention while backing out of a parking space and backed into a parked car in the next row over. You could hear the fenders crunching. Good news, the guy didn't hit and run, the owner of the other car got out of line and it looks like they where exchanging information. Still, considering what was going on, it was a little surreal. Quiet weekend. Yeah, slow weekend this week. Only had four things going on. 1. Uncle came in from Atlanta to stay with us. 2. Celebrated a friend's 30th birthday, Saturday. 3. In the midst of backing up my hard drive for a reformat on my tower. 4. What was that fourth one again, oh yeah, had to be best man for my kid brother's wedding. See, I was completely lazy this weekend. Current Mood: lazy | | Thursday, April 17th, 2008 | | 2:17 am |
Just an item of notice I was just thinking. If he was still alive my paternal grandfather would have been 119 years old today. | | Monday, April 14th, 2008 | | 8:30 pm |
Movie thoughts I was watching the original Star Wars trilogy this weekend, I got to thinking again. Could Lucas have made as good a story of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi if he had had the types of special effects that are available to movies today? Would the original Star Trek been as good, story-wise? Would it still be possible to do excellent story-telling in movies and television with amazing visuals, or does the easy access of flashy special effects give an easy out for people to skimp on telling the story? Atlanta While I live in North Carolina, Atlanta's like a second home town to me, with my uncle living in Norcross. So I know that this really is true. - Atlanta , USA - This is for anyone who lives in Atlanta , Georgia , has ever lived in Atlanta , has ever visited Atlanta , ever plans to visit Atlanta , knows anyone who already lives in Atlanta , or knows anyone who has ever heard of Atlanta . Atlanta is composed mostly of one-way streets. The only way to get out of downtown Atlanta is to turn around and start over when you reach Greenville, South Carolina . All directions start with, "Go down Peachtree" and include the phrase, "When you see the Waffle House." Except that in Cobb County , where all directions begin with, "Go to the Big Chicken." Peachtree Street has no beginning and no end and is not to be confused with: > Peachtree Circle > Peachtree Place > Peachtree Lane > Peachtree Road > Peachtree Parkway > Peachtree Run > Peachtree Terrace > Peachtree Avenue > Peachtree Commons > Peachtree Battle > Peachtree Corners > New Peachtree > Old Peachtree > West Peachtree > Peachtree-Dunwoody > Peachtree-Chamblee > Peachtree Industrial Boulevard Atlantans only know their way to work and their way home. If you ask anyone for directions, they will always send you down Peachtree. Atlanta is the home of Coca-Cola Coke's all they drink there so don't ask for any other soft drink unless it's made by Coca-Cola.. Even if you want something other than a Coca-Cola, it's still called Coke.. The gates at Atlanta 's Hartsfield International Airport are about 32 miles away from the Main Concourse, so wear sneakers and pack a lunch. The 8 am rush hour is from 6:30 to 10:30 AM. The 5 pm rush hour is from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday afternoon and lasts through 2 am Saturday. Only a native of Atlant a can pronounce Ponce De Leon Avenue , so do not attempt the Spanish pronunciation.. People will simply tilt their heads to the right and stare at you. The Atlanta pronunciation is "pawntz duh LEE-awn." And yes, they have a street named simply, "Boulevard." The falling of one raindrop causes all drivers to immediately forget all traffic rules. If a single snowflake falls, the city is paralyzed for three days and it's on all the channels as a news flash every 15 minutes for a week. Overnight, all grocery stores will be sold out of milk , bread, bottled water, toilet paper, and beer. I-285, the loop that encircles Atlanta, which has a posted speed limit of 55 mph (but you have to maintain 80 mph just to keep from getting run over), is known to truckers as "The Watermelon 500." Don't believe the directional markers on highways: I-285 is marked East and West but you may be going North or South. The locals identify the direction by referring to the "Inner Loop" and the "Outer Loop ." If you travel on Hwy 92 North, you will actually be going southeast. Never buy a ladder or mattress in Atlanta . Just go to one of the interstates and you will soon find one in the middle of the road. The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger, unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy and your AK-47 has a full clip. Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Georgia . There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Georgia , plus a couple no one has seen before. If it grows, it sticks. If it crawls, it bites. If you notice a vine trying to wrap itself around your leg, you have about 20 seconds to escape, before you are completely captured and covered with Kudzu, another ill-advised "import," like the Carp, Starling, English Sparrow, and other 'exotic wonders'.. It's not a shopping cart, it's a buggy. "Fixinto" is one word (I'm fixinto go to the store). Sweet Tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're 2 years old. "Jeet?" is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?" "Momma-nem" means: How's Mother and all of the other children and other members of the family doing. If you understand these jokes, forward them to your friends from Atlanta , Georgia and those who just wish they were. Lordy, I love ATLANTA !
